QuickBooks Desktop Pricing in 2026: Every Option Explained
One-time licenses, subscriptions, hidden costs and what's actually cheapest.
Pricing used to be the easy part of buying QuickBooks. You picked Pro, Premier or Enterprise, paid once, and used it for years. These days there are one-time licenses, yearly subscriptions, editions Intuit no longer sells to new customers, and add-ons that change the math completely.
This guide lays out every way you can still buy QuickBooks Desktop, what each one really costs over three years, and the costs that tend to surprise people later. Prices below are what we charge at the time of writing; the shop always has the current numbers.
The Two Ways to Pay
Every QuickBooks Desktop purchase falls into one of two buckets.
One-time license (non-subscription)
You pay once and own the right to use that version for as long as you like. There's no renewal and no monthly bill. The trade-off is that you stay on that version, and once Intuit's support window for it ends, online services like bank feeds and payroll updates stop.
Yearly subscription (Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Enterprise)
You pay every year. While the subscription is active you get updates, support and connected services. If you stop paying, the software stops letting you work in your company file beyond basic viewing.
One-Time QuickBooks Desktop Licenses
These are the genuine one-time licenses still available from us while stock lasts. Intuit isn't producing new ones, so when they're gone, they're gone.
| Product | Users | Price (one-time) | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| QuickBooks Pro 2021 | 1 (up to 3 with extra licenses) | $499.99 | Small businesses with simple books |
| QuickBooks Premier 2021 | 1 (up to 5 with extra licenses) | $599.99 | Contractors, nonprofits, manufacturers, retailers |
| QuickBooks Enterprise 2021 | Up to 40 | $899.99 | Larger teams and complex inventory |
| QuickBooks Mac 2021 | 1 (up to 3) | $499.99 | Mac users with simple books |
About the 2021 versions: They're past Intuit's support window, so bank feeds, Intuit payroll and Intuit phone support aren't available. Core bookkeeping works normally. If you need those online services, look at the subscription options below.
QuickBooks Desktop Subscriptions
| Product | Term | Price | What's included |
|---|---|---|---|
| QuickBooks Pro Plus 2024 | 1 year | $499.99 | Updates, support and connected services for the year |
| QuickBooks Pro Plus 2023 | 1 year | $439.99 | Same, on the 2023 release |
Subscriptions make sense if bank feeds and Intuit support matter to you. Just budget carefully for the renewal, because that's where the cost really climbs.
Intuit's renewal prices have jumped. Intuit's own price for a one-user Pro Plus renewal has gone past $1,000 a year. It rose to about $1,049 in October 2025 and has been reported at $1,149 from February 2026, with each extra user costing a few hundred dollars more. For comparison, the same subscription was $549 a year in 2023.
What It Costs Over Three Years
Here's a simple comparison for a one-person business, using Intuit's reported 2026 renewal price for Pro Plus. It leaves out payroll and add-ons, which we'll get to next.
| Option | Year 1 | Year 2 | Year 3 | 3-year total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro 2021, one-time | $499.99 | $0 | $0 | $499.99 |
| Pro Plus, yearly | $499.99 | About $1,149 (Intuit renewal) | About $1,149 or more | About $2,800 or more |
| QuickBooks Online | Monthly | Monthly | Monthly | Usually the highest of the three |
For a business that's happy with offline bookkeeping, a one-time license is almost always the cheapest option by year two. Over three years, a one-time Pro 2021 license can save you well over $2,000 compared with Pro Plus renewals at Intuit's current prices. For a business that needs bank feeds and built-in payroll, a subscription or QuickBooks Online often works out better because you'd be paying for those services separately otherwise.
The Costs People Forget
Payroll
QuickBooks Desktop Payroll is a separate Intuit subscription and needs a supported version of QuickBooks. If you're on a 2021 one-time license, most people use an outside payroll company (often for a similar monthly cost) and record the totals in QuickBooks.
Extra users
Each person who works in QuickBooks at the same time needs their own seat. Pro and Premier licenses can be bought for more than one user; Enterprise is priced by the number of users from the start.
Payments and add-ons
Card processing, checks and forms, and third-party apps all cost extra. None of them are required to use QuickBooks.
Your time
A version that installs cleanly on your computer and does what you need is worth more than a slightly cheaper one that doesn't. Check our system requirements guide before you buy.
So Which Option Is Cheapest for You?
- Simple books, no in-house payroll, happy offline: a one-time license of Pro or Premier 2021. Pay once and you're done.
- Need bank feeds and Intuit support: Pro Plus subscription.
- 6+ users or serious inventory: Enterprise.
- On a Mac: QuickBooks Mac 2021 one-time, or QuickBooks Online if you need bank feeds.
Watch Out for Too-Good-To-Be-True Prices
If you see QuickBooks Desktop for $50 on a marketplace site, be careful. Cheap keys are often used, already registered to someone else, meant for a different country, or flat-out fake. They might install and then fail activation, or get shut off later. Always buy from an authorized reseller who can show you where the license comes from. Our authenticity page explains how we source ours.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is QuickBooks Desktop Pro in 2026?
A one-time license of QuickBooks Pro 2021 is $499.99 from us while stock lasts. A one-year Pro Plus 2024 subscription is $499.99. Check the shop for the current price.
Can I still buy QuickBooks Desktop without a subscription?
Yes, while stock lasts. One-time licenses of QuickBooks Pro 2021, Premier 2021, Enterprise 2021 and Mac 2021 are still available from authorized resellers like Accountings Cart.
Is QuickBooks Desktop cheaper than QuickBooks Online?
Over two years or more, a one-time Desktop license is usually much cheaper than QuickBooks Online. Online includes bank feeds and automatic updates, so the real comparison depends on which of those services you need.
How much does a QuickBooks Pro Plus renewal cost?
Intuit's price for a one-user Pro Plus renewal is now over $1,000 a year: about $1,049 from October 2025, and reported at $1,149 from February 2026. Extra users cost more. That's why many small businesses choose a one-time license instead.
Do I have to pay for QuickBooks Desktop every year?
Not with a one-time license. You pay once and keep using that version. Subscriptions like Pro Plus are billed every year.
Does the price include installation help?
Every license comes with download links and step-by-step installation guides, and you can call us if you get stuck during setup.
