How to Download QuickBooks Desktop 2019
QuickBooks Desktop 2019 was a workhorse release that added calendar-based invoicing, direct deposit for vendors, and a revamped home screen. Thousands of businesses still run it daily. Use the steps below to download your copy and get it running on your machine.

Important: QuickBooks Desktop 2019 Is Discontinued
Intuit officially ended support for QuickBooks Desktop 2019 on May 31, 2022. That means bank feeds, payroll updates, security patches, and all online services no longer work with this version. The software itself still functions perfectly fine for offline bookkeeping — you just won't get any new updates or live connections.
Still running QuickBooks 2019? You're not alone. Plenty of businesses held onto this version because it was solid, familiar, and got the job done without a subscription. If you need to reinstall it on a new computer, recover from a crash, or set it up fresh, this guide walks you through the whole process from start to finish.
Just keep in mind — since Intuit pulled the plug on support, some steps (like activation) might take a little longer than they used to. Nothing to worry about, but worth knowing ahead of time.

What Is QuickBooks Desktop 2019?
QuickBooks Desktop 2019 was Intuit's desktop accounting release for that year. It installs directly on your Windows PC — no browser, no cloud — and handles invoicing, bill payments, expense tracking, bank reconciliation, payroll, inventory, and all the standard bookkeeping tasks a small or mid-sized business needs.
Back when it launched, the 2019 edition brought a handful of genuinely useful improvements over the 2018 version. It was a workhorse. The catch now is that Intuit sunset it in mid-2022, so while the core software keeps running, anything that requires an internet handshake with Intuit's servers — bank feeds, payroll downloads, live updates — is done.
What Was New in 2019?
- Improved search bar — Finding transactions, customers, and vendors got noticeably faster. The search actually started returning useful results instead of making you dig through menus.
- Better check printing — Alignment and formatting improvements that made printing checks less of a headache, especially for businesses that still cut a lot of paper checks.
- Cycle inventory count (Enterprise) — Enterprise users could count inventory in smaller batches on a rotating schedule instead of shutting everything down for one giant count.
- Automatic payment reminders — Set up reminders that go out to customers with overdue invoices without you having to remember to send them manually.
- Improved invoice tracking — Better visibility into which invoices were sent, viewed, and paid, so you always knew where your money stood.

System Requirements

Note on older systems: QuickBooks 2019 was designed for Windows 7 through Windows 10. It may run on Windows 11, but Intuit never officially tested or certified it for that OS. If you're on Windows 11, it usually works fine — but you're on your own if something acts up. Windows only — no Mac version for Desktop 2019.
What You Need Before Downloading
- Your Product License Key — The unique code tied to your copy of QuickBooks 2019. If you purchased from us, check your original order confirmation email. Guard this — you'll need it for every install and reinstall.
- Download Link — The direct link to grab the installer file for your specific version.
- Product Number — Identifies whether you have Pro, Premier, or Enterprise. Entered during setup.
- Order Confirmation Email — Your receipt with all the license details bundled together.
Tip: Since 2019 is discontinued, Intuit's download servers can be unpredictable. If your original download link no longer works, reach out to us and we'll get you the installer file directly.
QuickBooks Desktop 2019 — Download, Install, Activation & Get Started
Step 1: Dig Up Your Purchase Email
Find the original email from when you bought QuickBooks 2019. It has your download link and license key. Search your inbox for "QuickBooks 2019" or "license key" if you can't find it right away. Check spam and trash folders too — emails from a few years back sometimes get archived.
Step 2: Click the Download Link
Click the link from your email. The installer file is roughly 300-500 MB, so give it a few minutes to finish downloading depending on your connection speed.
Step 3: Locate the Downloaded File
Open your Downloads folder and look for something like QuickBooks.exe or Setup_QuickBooks2019.exe. If your browser asks where to save it, pick somewhere easy to find — your Desktop works great.
Step 4: Can't Find Your Setup File?
If you can't locate your QuickBooks setup file or the .exe file isn't in your Downloads folder, don't worry. You can download it directly from Intuit's official download page here: https://downloads.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/products. Just select your version, enter your license and product number, and the download will start.
Step 5: Have Your License Info Handy
Before you double-click anything, pull up your Product Number and License Key. You'll need both during the installation, and it's easier to have them ready than to scramble for them mid-setup.
Installation — Step by Step
The installation process is the same whether you have Pro, Premier, or Enterprise 19.0. Set aside about 10-15 minutes and you'll be up and running.
Step 1: Shut Down Everything Else
Close your browser, email, Word, Excel — everything. Most importantly, temporarily disable your antivirus. Security software loves to interfere with QuickBooks installations, and that goes double for an older version like 2019.
Step 2: Launch the Installer
Double-click the setup file you downloaded. When Windows pops up asking "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?" — click Yes.
Step 3: Accept the License Agreement
Read through it if you want (nobody does), check the "I accept the terms" box, and click Next.
Step 4: Type In Your Product Number and License Key
Enter your Product Number and License Key exactly as they appear in your email. Watch out for extra spaces or mixing up zeros and the letter O. Click Next when everything looks right.
Step 5: Pick Your Installation Type
Express Install
— The right choice for most people. Default settings, default location, no fuss.
Custom and Network Install
— Only pick this if you need to install to a specific folder or you're setting up multi-user access across a network.
Select your preference and click Next.
Step 6: Let It Install
Click Install and sit tight for 5-10 minutes. Don't close the installer window, don't restart your computer, and try not to run other programs while it works.
Step 7: Open QuickBooks
When the installer finishes, click Open QuickBooks. You'll also find a shortcut on your desktop. Remember to turn your antivirus back on.
How to Activate
Activation verifies that your license is legitimate. You normally have 30 days after installation to get it done. Since 2019 is discontinued, online activation can sometimes be a bit slower or finicky — but it still works for most people.
Step 1:
Launch QuickBooks 2019. Most of the time, it'll ask you to activate right away on the first open.
Step 2:
If it doesn't prompt you automatically, go to Help → Activate QuickBooks Desktop.
Step 3:
Walk through the on-screen prompts. Online activation usually takes under a minute, though it can occasionally take longer for discontinued versions.
Step 4:
You'll see a confirmation message — click OK and you're good to go.
If online activation doesn't cooperate: Go to Help → Activate → choose "activate by phone." Call the number on the screen, read them your validation code, and they'll give you a confirmation code to type in. Phone activation tends to be more reliable for older versions when the online method stalls.
Troubleshooting — Common Issues
Download Link No Longer Works
This happens with discontinued versions. Intuit sometimes pulls older download links. If yours is dead, contact us — we can provide the installer file so you're not stuck.
Download Stops Partway Through
Delete the incomplete file, make sure your internet connection is stable, and try downloading again. If one browser gives you trouble, try a different one — Chrome and Edge tend to handle large downloads well.
Installation Fails or Freezes
Disable antivirus first — that's the culprit more often than not. Confirm you have at least 2.5 GB of free disk space. Restart your computer and run the installer as Administrator (right-click the file → Run as administrator).
Error 1903 or 1904
Run Windows Update and install everything it finds. Restart your computer and try the install again. If the error keeps showing up, download and install the latest Microsoft .NET Framework from Microsoft's website, then retry.
Error 3371 — Can't Load License Data
Close QuickBooks completely. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8 and delete the file called EntitlementDataStore.ecml. Open QuickBooks again and re-enter your license key when prompted.
QuickBooks Crashes Immediately After Opening
Uninstall QuickBooks from Settings → Apps, restart your machine, disable antivirus, then reinstall as Administrator. Restart one more time after the fresh install. This usually clears it up.
"License Already In Use"
If you moved to a new computer, uninstall QuickBooks from the old one first. Can't access the old machine? Give us a call and we'll walk you through it. Phone activation often clears this kind of licensing hiccup on its own.
Firewall or Antivirus Blocking QuickBooks
Add QuickBooks to your antivirus whitelist as a trusted program. For Windows Firewall: go to Control Panel → Allow an app through Windows Firewall → make sure QuickBooks is checked for both Private and Public networks.
Should You Upgrade from QuickBooks 2019?
This is the big question, and the honest answer depends on how you use QuickBooks.
You Can Probably Stay on 2019 If:
- You only use QuickBooks for offline bookkeeping — entering transactions, running reports, printing checks
- You don't need bank feeds or automatic transaction downloads
- You handle payroll manually or through a separate service
- Your computer runs Windows 7 or 10 and everything is stable
You Should Seriously Consider Upgrading If:
- You rely on bank feeds to download transactions — those are completely dead on 2019
- You use Intuit payroll through QuickBooks — tax tables stopped updating in 2022
- Security matters to you — no more patches means potential vulnerabilities over time
- You've upgraded to Windows 11 and are seeing odd behavior or glitches
- You need to send invoices with online payment links — that feature no longer functions
- Your accountant or bookkeeper is asking you to move to a supported version
If you do decide to upgrade, your company file transfers forward — QuickBooks 2024 can open and convert a 2019 company file without losing your data.
